What is the Model Context Protocol (MCP) and how does Mettle use it?
Model Context Protocol is an open standard developed by Anthropic that allows AI assistants (like Claude, ChatGPT, and Cursor) to securely connect to external tools and data sources. Mettle implements an official remote MCP server at https://api.mettlegeo.com/mcp. This gives your assistant 23 dedicated tools to inspect brand health, extract citation sources, cross-reference Google Search Console, and trigger prompt runs on demand.
Is the MCP tool included in standard Mettle plans or sold separately?
Mettle MCP access is fully included across all paid Mettle subscriptions (Go, Pro, and the custom-priced Startup and Enterprise plans, which you can arrange with us via the contact page) as well as the 14-day Free plan. There are no extra per-seat or per-query MCP surcharges. All 23 tools are available from day one; the data they return follows the limits of your plan.
Which AI assistants, IDEs, and environments are supported?
Mettle MCP is compatible with any MCP-compliant client. This includes Claude Code (CLI), Claude Desktop, Cursor IDE, ChatGPT (via Custom GPT / remote server configuration), OpenAI Codex, and custom AI agent frameworks built with LangChain, LlamaIndex, or AutoGen.
Can Claude or Cursor modify my site files directly using Mettle data?
Yes! When using developer clients like Claude Code or Cursor, the assistant has both access to Mettle GEO data (via MCP) and local file editing tools. For example, it can call get_brand_profile and get_geo_health, discover missing schema or an absent llms.txt, and write the corrected files directly to your project repository.
How does authentication and brand security work?
Mettle MCP uses OAuth 2.0 and Bearer Token authentication adhering strictly to the MCP specification. Every tool call is scoped to the brands your authenticated Mettle user has member or admin permissions for. Your Google Search Console tokens and brand metrics are encrypted and never used to train third-party AI models.
How does the Google Search Console (GSC) cross-reference tool work?
The get_gsc_data tool queries your connected Google Search Console property to pull high-impression search queries, then cross-references them with Mettle's AI search database. It identifies queries where search volume is high but your brand is omitted from Perplexity or ChatGPT answers, giving you a prioritized list of content gaps to fix.
Does Mettle guarantee search rankings or citations?
No. We keep it strictly honest: Mettle does not promise rankings or citations. Instead, it removes what blocks AI engines from reading your site, fixes what turns them away, and gives your content the clearest possible path to being discovered.
Which platforms are automated today, and how are permissions handled?
Cloudflare (AI settings, edge files, redirects) and WordPress (draft pages and FAQs) are fully automated. Shopify and Wix provide ready-to-copy steps, with automation coming soon. For Cloudflare, some fixes need a one-time permission on your Cloudflare token, which works completely on Cloudflare's free plan.
